Overview
In some cases, your organization’s policies may require restricted access to content only when connected to the platform via the organization’s network – i.e., from within the company offices or via a secure corporate VPN connection.
The platform allows two levels of access control, both based on a pre-configured set of IP address ranges (“allow-list”):
- Platform Level: Allow login only from within the range of the IP address allow list. Users that try to access from public internet connections will be denied access.
- Course/Stream Level: The System Administrator can configure Courses and streams to be blocked for access from outside the company network.
Note: If you require your organization’s account to be configured for one or both of the above access control levels, please contact your Customer Success Manager.
Course/Stream-Level Restriction: Administrator Side
Once this functionality has been enabled on your account, you will find a new setting in the Course/Stream configuration screen in the Admin interface. This setting is located under the “Activation” tab:
By default, new courses/streams will be set to restricted access (giving Admin users the option to selectively “opt-out” of the restricting policy by turning off this special setting for specific courses/streams). Should you prefer new courses/streams to be created by default unrestricted (giving Admin users the option to selectively “opt-in” and mark some specific courses/streams as restricted), we can set this up for your account upon request.
Course/Stream-Level Restriction: Learner/Instructor Side
When a course or stream has been set in restricted mode, learners and instructors trying to access it will get a message indicating that they should connect to the organization’s network to access that content.
