Introduction
The Leaner Performance Notifications app allows you to create and send event-specific notifications to targeted users. Notifications are automatically sent based on an event taking place on the platform and the learner's performance-associated conditions.
This article presents a list of events and conditions that can be used to trigger a notification.
- Low Success Rate- Informs the instructor when a learner's performance falls below the success rate threshold.
- Difficulty in Content- Informs the instructor when a designated number of learners are experiencing difficulty with one particular content item.
- Past Due Assignment- Notification is triggered a number of days before and after the due date to remind the learner to complete the assignment.
Low Success Rate Notification
This notification trigger informs the instructor when a learner's performance falls below the success rate threshold.
Here is a description of notification configurations:
Here is a description of notification configurations:
- Success rate threshold– enabley triggers an alert if the learner scores below the designated threshold. For example, the notification is triggered if the threshold is 60 percent and the learner scores 50 percent.
- Cooldown period– The minimum number of days before similar alerts are triggered to the same learner. It is recommended that you limit the cooldown period to two or three days.
- Minimum questions answered– The minimum number of questions the learner must answer before the system triggers an alert. It is recommended that you allow the learner to answer at least five questions before the notification is triggered.
In the example above, a notification will be triggered if a learner has completed at least 10 questions and scored an average score lower than 60. The following notification will be sent 7 days after the previous. The notification will end once the learner reaches an average score above 60.
Difficulty in Content Notification
This notification trigger informs the instructor when learners experience difficulty with specific content. For example, the success threshold is set at 70 percent, and learners are learning a course including five content items. Suppose a designated number of learners scored 90 percent for four of the five items but scored below 60 percent for the fifth item. A Difficulty in Content Item notification is triggered.

- Number of learners attempted– The number of learners who must score below the threshold to trigger the notification.
In the example above, a notification will be triggered if at least 5 learners have failed to achieve a score above 70 in a specific course. The next notification will be sent 7 days after the previous.
Past Due Assignment Notification
You can set the system to trigger a notification for an assignment that is about to be or is already overdue.
In the Past Due Assignment Notification setting, set the days before and after the due date to remind learners to complete the assignment. You can drag the slider on the Due Date bar to indicate the days before and after the due date or enter the number directly into the respective fields.

In the example above, a notification will be triggered 2 days before and 1 day after the due date.
